About the Metalshop

The Metalshop is the center for creating high-strength, durable, and precision-engineered components. Geared towards mechanical and structural applications, it offers a full suite of capabilities from manual machining to computer-controlled fabrication. This is where raw metal stock is transformed into critical parts for robotics, vehicles, and research apparatus. The shop supports the entire process—from cutting and shaping with mills, lathes, and a powerful fiber laser, to final assembly through professional-grade welding and finishing, ensuring prototypes are not just models, but functional, reliable systems.

Example Uses
  • Machining components for drivetrain assemblies.

  • Welding a frame for a competition vehicle.

  • Creating custom brackets and mounts for testing setups.
